Hawaiian chocolate is known for its unique flavors and high-quality cacao beans grown on the islands, giving it a distinct taste that reflects the tropical climate and volcanic soil of Hawaii.
Many Hawaiian chocolate makers are dedicated to sustainable and ethical practices, ensuring that their products are not only delicious but also produced in a responsible way.
Overall, chocolate from Hawaii is a special treat that captures the essence of the islands in every bite.
I had the pleasure of studying Tree to Bar this year in Oahu, Hawaii, with Manoa Chocolate. I spent a week immersed in growing cacao and making bars in the Manoa Chocolate Factory.
I met the farmer Ben Fields, who sold me 50 lbs of cacao beans directly from his farm. His cacao beans have never left the islands because they are so expensive to process and ship.
I feel very fortunate to have procured these beans to share with anyone who wants to try cacao from Hawaii.
Once they are gone, I will have to go back next year to buy some more — which I am happy to do!
I hope you love this chocolate as much as I have loved learning about cacao and processing these beans in my home kitchen.
